Hilton Head Island Safe Harbour moves into Meals on Wheels, Bluffton-Hilton Head
Two agencies are working together to improve the lives of our homebound neighbors.
September 1, 2023, Hilton Head Island…Two local agencies serving seniors are joining forces to expand their services to offer programs benefiting our neighbors’ growing need for meals, social connection and transportation.
“Safe Harbour was looking for a new location and we at Meals on Wheels saw a benefit in sharing our space with them at the Capital Drive location on Hilton Head Island,” said Lili Coleman, executive director. This opportunity offers us a chance to collaborate and expand our joint goal to increase social interaction and to reduce loneliness for our clients.”
The two agencies, starting in September will share space at 75 Capital Drive, Suite B on Hilton Head thanks to the forward thinking of the property owner, David Politi. The agencies will remain independent in their programs and fundraising efforts. Both agencies will work together to expand social connection offering monthly programing, to fight against loneliness faced by our older neighbors who are confined to their homes.

Both Meals On Wheels and Safe Harbour provide services to island residents to enable them to remain independent and safe in their homes. Meals On Wheels provides prepared meals and wellness checks to residents on Hilton Head Island, in Bluffton and in Sun City while Safe Harbour provides transportation services and socialization mainly on Hilton Head Island.

For the past 47 years, this local agency has provided hot nutritious meals Monday through Friday, with a frozen meal on Saturdays. The agency also provides wellness checks, offers a Pet Program, and will be providing fresh produce monthly to their clients. Over 240 volunteers use their own vehicles and pay for their fuel expenses in support of the agency’s mission. We are proud to be a United Way agency and a member of Meals on Wheels, America.

Hilton Head Safe Harbor volunteers, through its "Neighbors Driving Neighbors" program, provide transportation to medical appointments, physical therapy, grocery stores, library, bank, and other places on the island. Perhaps most importantly, our volunteers provide much needed companionship and a respite from loneliness through regular phone calls and visits.
