We rely on our volunteers for so many things! Volunteer Drivers (delivering meals) are always needed. But we also need volunteers for :
Volunteer today, or call us (843-802-0919) if you have special skills that could help us!
Because the main population we feed are the elderly, and it is the fastest growing population in the United States and the number of seniors is expected to double or triple in the next three to four decades, the number of volunteers and resources is currently struggling to keep up. We also serve other homebound neighbors who are handicapped or temporarily in need of prepared meals due to physical or medical health issues.
The most common volunteer position is delivering meals and providing a wellness check on our homebound clients. Typically, this involves picking up meals at a central location and delivering along a predetermined route to the homes of meal recipients. You offer a hello , a smile, and quick check on their welfare, and then greeting homebound seniors. Yes, (1) you must have your own car, (2) you must have an official driver’s license, (3) you must sign all agency policy documents and (4) you must attend a volunteer orientation session.
There is not a minimum time to volunteer. Typically delivering meals takes approximately 2 hours. Meal packing takes approximately1.5 hours.
We can set up a volunteer schedule that works with yours. Whether that is once a week, once a month, or as needed.
Absolutely! We have many duos that volunteer together. Just let us know.
It is possible that you can sign up with the same route each time. However, there is often a need to fill in open volunteer slots or to volunteer on different schedules which could result in different clients on different days.
Schedules are flexible, with appropriate notice. Trades, exchanges, and fill-ins are all acceptable. Keep in mind our clients depend on you, so a 24-hour notice is required.
