MOW Client Turns 100 Years Young
Sofia Aranda of Hilton Head Island welcomed her 100th birthday on Wednesday, February 7 dressed to the nine after a routine morning that included washing her own clothes and fixing breakfast.
Surprising her on this special day were a team of Meals on Wheels, Bluffton-Hilton Head volunteers and staff, along with a reporter from WJCL-TV.
“I begin every day with a prayer, and I believe this is why I’ve lived to be 100 years old,” said Sofia.
Sofia was born in Honduras in 1923 and took the advice of a businessman when he encouraged her to “go to America.” She left her family behind, made a good living as a seamstress, and later brought her family to the United States by being frugal and having a plan. She still owns her original sewing machine.
Special thank you to Publix for donating a gift card to cover the flowers, cake and balloons for this special occasion.
