Long Cove Club Community Fund a valued supporter of Meals on Wheels

July 11, 2023, Hilton Head Island, SC---LONG COVE CLUB COMMUNITY FUND of Community Foundation of the Lowcountry recently awarded Meals on Wheels, Bluffton-Hilton Head a grant to support meals for the more than 150 clients who receive hot nutritious weekday meals, and a frozen meal 52 weeks out of the year.

“This support is critical in the fight against food insecurity and loneliness for our clients,” said Lili Coleman, executive director.

“Our amazing volunteers check on homebound neighbors Monday through Friday and alert the staff if a situation needs more attention. Our goal is to offer a wellness check and the volunteer in some situations is the only person a client sees daily,” said Coleman.

A portion of this year’s grant also enabled the agency to purchase a commercial printer to reduce staff time in printing the daily personalized route sheet. This is critical to ensure medically tailored meals are properly noted. The printer saves valuable staff time, reduces the time getting the meals to the clients, and cuts the task to less than a minute per day. 

Over the years, Long Cove Club Community has supported Meals on Wheels with over $60,000. Meals on Wheels depends on local grants and donations and receives no funding from state and federal sources.
